Healthy Holiday Gift Guide

by Natalie on December 1, 2011

Do you want to give or receive the gift of health this year? Here are some great healthy gift ideas to add to your own list or to buy for your health conscious loved ones. The items are listed in no particular order, I think they are all great!

  • Klean Kanteen water bottle or insulated mug. Klean Kanteen products are all BPA free and made of stainless steel. They have a variety of products that will suit the needs of all ages.  My husband and I both have the classic 40 oz bottle that we just love! Your purchase will also help the environment by reducing the number of plastic water bottles used.
  • Subscription to a CSA (community supported agriculture) farm. I think this is one of the best gifts you can give. The lucky person will receive a box of fresh, local produce delivered weekly during the growing season. The cost will vary depending on the type of subscription you purchase. This gift is perfect if you want to go in on a gift with several people because the cost is higher than your typical gift. Check out to get more info about CSA’s and to look for a CSA farms near you!
  • A high quality juicer or blender. Having healthy tools in the kitchen makes it a lot easier to be healthy. I don’t own a juicer but I have heard that Breville makes good ones. And oh look – they have a juicer and blender in one! If you want to get the best blender in the whole world, purchase a Vitamix. I own this blender and absolutely love it!
  • A 10-class pack to a local yoga studio. Class packs run around $100-150. Search the websites of yoga studios in your area for more specific pricing.
  • A cooking class. Here in Chicago, a popular cooking school is called the Chopping Block.
  • A healthy cookbook. An old time favorite of mine is How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. Veganomicon is on my wish list. I am not vegan but you know how I love to eat plants!
  • New exercise clothes. Many people are reluctant to buy nice exercise clothes and tend to wear the same old ratty T-shirts to the gym. New exercise clothes makes it more enticing to work out! I find that TJ Maxx always has cute stuff at great prices.
  • A massage. Who doesn’t love a great massage? What a great way to unwind. I love aromatherapy massage.
  • A spice box. This is great for the cooking enthusiast. I got one as a wedding gift and absolutely loved it. Penzey’s is a company that offers gift sets on-line. They have tons of variety in spice combinations and prices. I think the Herb 8 Jar looks great.
  • A gift certificate to a healthy restaurant. Luckily in Chicago we have several options for this.
  • Organic Riviera pears from Harry and David. This company does a great job at marketing. Every time I get the holiday catalog, my mouth starts watering at the sight of the pears. I just want to bite into one of them! If you want to spend more, they also have an organic fruit of the month club.
  • A Whole Foods gift card. If you just don’t know what to get, you can’t go wrong with a gift card to Whole Foods!
  • DIY Bath Salts. I got this idea from Kris Carr’s book Crazy Sexy Diet. In her book she gives several recipes for homemade bath soaks. One of them is:  1-2 cups of epsom salts, 1/4 cup baking soda, and a dash of lavender. I thought this would be great to mix up and put into Ball jars tied with ribbons. A very cost-effective holiday gift.
Hopefully this gives you many good ideas! If you want to share any healthy holiday gifts you’re asking for this year, leave a comment in the box below.
Happy Holidays to you!
