7512566640_55d5f546fbYou may have put off losing weight in the past but now it’s go time.

The wedding is months away, and you want to take your finance’s breath away when you walk down that aisle.

I know you’re smart enough to know that weight loss means healthy eating and exercise, but you can’t wait years to get results, right?

Here are 3 Ideas to Jump Start Your Weight loss:

1. Eat less than 10 grams of added sugar per day.

Drastically cutting back on sugar is a game changer. Here’s the deal – sugar tells our bodies to release a hormone called insulin. When you eat a lot of sugar, more insulin has to be released to deal with it. The spike in insulin signals your body to store fat, which can rapidly pack on the pounds. Sugar is everywhere – not just in cakes and candies. Common foods with high sugar include breakfast cereals, yogurt, granola bars/energy bars, juice, and condiments. Read labels carefully. To give you an idea, 10 grams of sugar is about 1.5 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of maple syrup.

2. Cut back on alcohol

Alcoholic drinks contain a significant amount of nutrient-empty calories. Now, I’m not usually one to talk about calories, but I think it needs to be addressed here. What many people don’t realize is that alcohol itself contains calories,  not just the mixer used to make it. If you consume more than 3 drinks per week, you are getting a significant amount of calories from alcohol. By cutting back on alcohol, you may also find that you sleep better and feel better all over in general. That’s because alcohol is pretty hard on our bodies.

3. Keep Grains to less than 3 servings per day

Grains contain a significant amount of carbohydrates. Like sugar (see tip #1), insulin is released in response to carbohydrates. Because grains are so densely packed with carbs, its very easy to eat more than you need. 1 serving of grains = 1 slice of bread, 1/3 cup cooked pasta or rice, 1/2 cup cooked whole grains (oats, quinoa, etc), and 3 cups popcorn. When you decrease your grains, be sure to up your intake of vegetables, beans, lentils, and protein.
